Fujitsu launches 55 and 63 inch Plasmavision™ screens

New 55- and 63-inch Commercial Screens Offer Exceptional Picture Quality
for Visual Display Applications and Extended Life-Span of Over 60,00 Hours

London, 9th June 2004– Fujitsu General, a world leader in plasma technology, today announced the launch of two new large-screen plasma displays for the commercial sector. Both screens have been specifically designed to meet the demand for high-impact visual display technology across the commercial sector. The P55XHA30 is the UK’s first 55-inch widescreen plasma monitor and the first product to include Fujitsu’s revolutionary e-AliS (Extended Alternate Lighting of Surfaces) display technology. Fujitsu’s largest screen to date, the P63XHA30, incorporates Fujitsu’s exclusive AVM (Advanced Video Movement) processing technology to offer contrast and brightness levels previously unavailable on screens of this size.

Both screens incorporate a number of newly developed viewing technologies to offer a remarkably realistic image quality. With the P55XHA, Fujitsu is also launching e-AliS, its revolutionary, new progressive scan display technology. Specifically designed for screens larger than 50 inches, this extension of Fujitsu’s existing AliS technology yields exceptionally sharp big-screen picture quality with amazing colour accuracy and a remarkable 1000 cd/m2 brightness. With its combination of specially developed Fujitsu-grade glass and the AVM processor, the P63XHA delivers an incredible 3000:1 contrast ratio and 1000 cd/m2 brightness. In addition, the display panel in the P55XHA utilises newly developed phosphors, which have a substantially longer lifetime of more than 60,000 hours use.

“There is incredible demand from UK businesses for a large-screen plasma replacement for existing projector and screen combinations. However users have often been disappointed by the by the picture quality and control available on existing first-generation large-screen displays,” explained Paul Burnip, UK Sales and Marketing Manager at Fujitsu General. “With the development of new large screen display technologies such as e-AliS, Fujitsu is set to redress the balance.”

The P55XHA30 and P63XHA30 are designed to provide maximum custom installation flexibility, and can display the widest variety of digital and analogue video sources including HDTV sources and the video output from a PC up to UXGA resolution. Both monitors include, a comprehensive suite of A/V inputs including S-video, composite video and analogue RGB video inputs, plus RS-232 control ports for integrated system operation, stereo audio inputs and external speaker outputs.

Both 55- and 63-inch screens are slim-profile designs, with a depth of only 12.3 centimetres, facilitating wall, ceiling or stand-mounting in commercial installations, and a chassis design that enables all connecting cables to be easily and discreetly installed. They also incorporate a high quality stereo amplifier with external speaker outputs and volume, treble, bass and balance controls, with matching speakers available.

e-AliS sets the industry standard
Winner of the Innovations Award at the 2004 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), e-AliS sets a new standard for large screen plasma displays. Fujitsu’s existing ALiS technology discharges the electrodes in the plasma panel in a more efficient manner than conventional plasma monitors to achieve higher brightness and definition. eALiS, as featured in the P55XHA, utilises shared electrodes on the front glass of the panel and a newly developed grid cell structure on the back glass panel. This ensures that each pixel responds more accurately to the input image. In addition, e-ALiS uses progressive scan operation to illuminate the pixels in the display, rather than the interlaced method employed previously. Like AliS, this new method alternately addresses odd lines and even lines during addressing time, however after that all lines are displayed at once, rather than alternately, giving a more precise overall image.

Exceptional picture control
As well as the existing ‘fine mode’ function, which optimises brightness while retaining accurate colour levels to deliver a quality picture on well-lit rooms, all the screens also include the new ‘natural colour mode’ and ‘professional setting’ functions. While most plasma screens aim to emulate the colour tone of traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions, Fujitsu’s new ‘natural colour mode’ is designed to reproduce a more realistic true colour tone and ensure that colours are represented as they would be in real-life. The new ‘professional setting’ function gives the user greater control over picture quality through a series of adjustments to colour and brightness. This includes options to set values for luminance, black level and colour temperature, and is complemented by a memory function that allows the user to store eight different picture settings.

Realistic image reproduction
Both screens include Fujitsu's proprietary Advanced Video Movement (AVM) processor, an exclusive technology that virtually eliminates motion artifacts and flicker, improves vertical resolution and reproduces natural movement with ease. The processor uses different types of processing for moving and still pictures, yielding smoother images with more natural movement and without visible scan lines. High-definition television (HDTV) and DVD signals are also optimised for the characteristics of the plasma display, to achieve amazing image quality. Thanks to the use of 10-bit signal processing for each of the panel's R, G and B input signals, both new Plasmavision monitors achieve 1.07 billion colours display resolution which provides significantly more lifelike colour accuracy, with much finer subtleties and gradations between colours.

Pricing and availability
The Fujitsu Plasmavision P55XHA30 and P63XHA30 are available in the UK now. Suggested retail pricing for the P55XHA is £7,995.00 and the P63XHA30 is £12,995.
